Repairing a Friction Drive Turntable
An owner of a non-WCT installed turntable called on WCT to repair and service their turntable as it failed. We found it was a friction drive turntable which required the friction drive wheel to be adjusted to compensate for wear. Also, the control system wasn’t built with IP standards in mind, it suffered from water ingress, which caused the VSD to fail.
Since some of the turntable mechanical components were excessively corroded, the friction drive wheel couldn’t be adjusted. So, we fabricated a new baseplate so the motor drive wheel could be adjusted, built a new control system that would stand up to the elements and allow the electrical start-up profile to be altered to help the friction drive perform better. This was one of our relatively easier projects, so it could be done at very minimal cost.
